Noel Gomez of Worcester, Grade 6, Contributes To Middle School Musical's Success #WAprepared #WAdifference

2017 Jan 30

Noel Gomez of Worcester, Grade 6, contributed to the success of the Worcester Academy Middle School Musical, "Helen on 86th St.," which was staged from Jan. 25-27 at the Worcester Academy Performance Center. Noel played the role of "Max."

The musical, which is a Kaufman, Kempskie and Stamper collaboration, focuses on 12-year-old "Vita Calista" as she learns to cope with an absent father, a single mother, a disappointing role inside the Trojan Horse in the school play, and the daily pressures of being a 'tween growing up in New York City.

The students were honored to perform the show for Helen On 86th St. author Nicole Kempskie, who said she loved the WA performance.

Noel and other members of the casty and crew developed real world skills and effective interpersonal communications and gained self-confidence during the production.

The Worcester Academy Visual and Performing Arts Department is dedicated to offering students a vibrant and transformative education in the arts, grounded in exposure to and experience in theatre, visual art, and music. The arts at Worcester Academy are a training ground for collaboration, problem solving, and creative expression. They encourage students to look within and discover their own voices, as well as to look outside themselves to hear and understand the voices of others. The arts program also provides a foundation for further study for student who wish to make a life in the arts and, for all students, teaches the importance of making the arts a part of life.
