Owen McCarthy of Holden, Grade 6, Participates in Worcester Academy's Fall Middle School Play, 'Walk Two Moons' #WorcesterAcademy #WAArts #Excellence

2014 Dec 3

Holden resident Owen McCarthy, Grade 6, participated in the Worcester Academy's Middle School's Fall Play, "Walk Two Moons," by Tom Arvetis, staged in Ross Auditorium, Warner Theater last month. The show is based on an award-winning novel by Sharon Creech.

Owen played the role of "Gramps."

The plot of "Walk Two Moons" is a classic coming of age story in which Salamanca Tree Hiddle is on a road trip across the country with her Gram and Gramps. Sal is hoping to find her mother, who disappeared a year earlier. Along the way, Sal entertains her grandparents with stories of what's happened during that year - especially about her friend Phoebe, whose over-zealous imagination lands the girls in some strange situations.

As Sal's stories unfold, one learns the meaning of the phrase "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins."

All of the Worcester Academy students involved in the play had an opportunity to develop invaluable real world skills such as handling responsibility, problem solving, organizing and motivating themselves and others, developing effective interpersonal communication, and gaining self-confidence.

Warner Theater, called a "a hidden gem of American Theaters" by the American Theater Historical Society, is named for Lewis J. Warner, Worcester Academy Class of 1928 and son of Warner Brothers President Harry Warner, who donated the theater.
